1. All Photos taken by Gordon LaFleur, Parksville, BC. The cover photo with the palm tree was not taken in any tropical country, but in Parksville, BC, in the Spring of 2008. Parksville is in climate Zone 8a, and several varieties of palms, while not native to the area, thrive outdoors, often growing to 20 ft. in height.
2. "Island Man" came about when I realized that several of my friends were sailors. I discovered that one of my 3 Bass players, Dave B. races his sailboat with a friend of mine, Don L. that I hadn't seen in 20 years. Then I saw a photo of one of my Profs in music school, taken on a sailboat. The result was "Island Man", who is a composite of all the sailing men I've met. But they all seem to share these characteristics. There's just something about sailing that not only challenges, but brings out the best in these men, and sailors are some of the finest men I know...
